Truesilver Amulet of Excellence

This amulet could easily be mistaken for a silver amulet – and an expertly crafted one at that. The reason that it has been crafted in truesilver, however, is obvious – because truesilver can hold heavier enchantments than silver. The necklace causes the mental and social skills of the wearer to skyrocket.

+8 to Charisma

The amulet alone would boost the efficiency and damage of my spells by almost a third – and even better, there was no doubt that this item was for me.

Apart from this, I’d found a whole hoard of stuff I happily kept for myself as we’d agreed upon. Five wine bottles of different and unknown vintages, which hopefully ought to pay for a couple of lessons with Greck, a large and disgusting pile of body parts from our enemies which I hoped would be useful as items for crafting, otherwise they’d end up as “vendor trash” – what you called an item when it was good for nothing but selling to a vendor, usually at a low price. Also, the book that the warlock had held cradled in his dying hands, of course. I was chomping at the bit to study the book in peace and see what nobody else in the village knew about the wicked warlock’s dying moments and thoughts – but I decided to shove the thought to the back of my mind for awhile – right then was the time to celebrate a successful first outing with Lyle. Oh, and there also was a mystery box: a wooden box containing six glass orbs the size of large marbles which all held some sort of colored, twisting fog on the inside. The official name tag was, of course, “unidentified item”.

We spent some time chatting and going over the day, re-telling and embellishing on the details of the battles. I sacrificed one of the wine bottles to the good cause, and the tales grew taller while our laughter grew louder and when Lyle left a bit later, he was anxious to get home to his parents and tell them of his exploits – or in his words, “Maybe the least humiliating half of it.” When he’d left, I experienced something I hadn’t felt since the beginning of my impromptu attempt at early retirement: happiness. I wasn’t entirely sure which part of the day had encouraged this result – the easy camaraderie with Lyle, the hard-won battles or the spoils – but for once, I was entirely at peace with myself. I opened the shutters, took out my violin and just played for a while, serenading the evening forest. A couple of deer were grazing peacefully right on the other side of the stockade – oh, and my number one fan, the lizard, was also out. As a reward, I treated them to a rendition of a song from Bambi, “Little April Shower”. It’s a nauseatingly cute song, but hey – that’s the kind of mood I was in.

Later, I lowered my violin and turned my back to the forest.
